AL: Welcome to College Admissions Real Talk. This is Dr. Aviva Legatt, founder and Elite Admissions Expert at Ivy Insight and author of “Get Real and Get In”. Today, I want to tell you a little bit about our Emerging Leader program. I believe in this program so strongly because of my experiences as an applicant and my experiences as an admissions committee member as well as an advisor. I strongly believe that the admissions process is designed for students to step up and step into themselves as leaders. Our program is designed to help you complete an original project with guidance from educators at many top universities including Duke, University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Columbia. We actually have over 95 professors in our network, which is pretty incredible. What we do is if you want to do an original research project. We work with you to find a number of different mentor matches and we allow you to choose to match that fits best for you. What we’ve done is we worked hard to leverage our network of contacts and alliances. So that you could start to define yourselves as a leader, as an academic, and, whatever experience you choose, it will ultimately support you in preparing for college. We can help you whether your applications are a few years away, whether you’ve already been in college, or you’re just about to apply. Another reason we wanted to do this program is that we want to help you to distinguish yourself in these times. It’s really difficult for students like you to find extracurricular activities at school. So many activities are canceled, but this program transcends COVID so whether you’re in COVID times or not having access to a 1 to 1 professor mentorship is a way that you can continue to grow and develop during these times when so many things are on pause. If you’re hoping to make an impact but you’re not sure how to distinguish yourself in the application process, if you’re frustrated by limited opportunities to drive your future forward, If you’re worried about the impact of shutdowns on your college application or career prospects, this is a great option for you. Over a period of two months, you are matched 1 to 1 with a professor in a field of your choosing and it could be anyone of our 95 top experts at colleges like Pen, Duke, MIT, and Colombia. And really what this is designed to do is to help you invest your time and energy diving deeply into your passions in order to showcase how unique and amazing you are and to help you improve on for potential. So, how does this help with college admission? As I say, pretty often colleges, especially the top ones, they don’t want well-rounded students. They don’t want students who are dabblers. They actually want a well-rounded class. So, this means you really have to dive deeply into 1 or 2 things in order to distinguish yourself rather than spread yourself really thin. So, as a college applicant when you’re evaluated for holistic admissions, you’re thinking about things like your metrics, your GPA, tests, your attributes, your personal qualities, and your experiences like leadership, community service and so on. So each aspect of your background helps to paint a picture of your unique strengths and talents which persuades admissions officers to admit you but this year you might not have some of those things available. Maybe your standardized tests were canceled. Maybe you didn’t perform at your best due to the adjustments of virtual schooling or maybe everyone’s grades are just really high and you’re now one of many students. Whatever the reason, it becomes all the more important to distinguish yourself in other ways. So, I’ve talked in other episodes about your college acceptance X factor and this is a combination of your expertise, experience, and exponentialism. So this program, the Emerging Leader program, is really designed to help with all three because you’re going to develop expertise in a subject that’s ideally related to the major you want to study. You’re gaining experience by building a relationship with a professor by learning new research technique and by embarking on a new experience. And finally, exponentialism. This is all about your ability to make an impact with your work on many people, not just yourself. So of course, the first step is gaining insight into your expertise and to gaining experience as you grow these projects. And as you grow your knowledge, you’re going to find ways to spread your wings to create that exponentialism to create that impact on many more people than just yourself. You can this through publishing a research paper, building up a book, or a blog, or even a podcast like this one. This will be really helpful for you to narrow your interest to figure out what major you want to do or don’t want to do, to understand how things are at top colleges based on which professor you’re working with, and give you great access to what researching is like. If you’re ready to find your X factor and create the impact you were meant to make, despite these challenging times, I encourage you to go to ivyinsight.com and click on the Emerging Leader program. You can also access the page at emergingleaderprog.com and send us an application. It’s free to be reviewed and we’d be happy to consider you for the program if you’re a listener of this podcast. Looking forward to seeing your application. Until next time.
